# Create and edit ideas

> Add an idea by hand or with AI, and fill in its type, summary, tags, and prompts.

## Adding an idea

Select the folder you want it in, then click **New idea** in the left toolbar.

The dialog asks for a **name** and a **type**. The type is guessed from the folder you are in, so an
idea created inside Character starts as a character.

From there you have two paths:

<Tabs>
  <Tab title="Quick create">
    Turn on **Quick create** to skip AI entirely and save the idea with just a name and type. Fill
    in the rest later.
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="With AI">
    Pick a reference outline or screenplay, describe what you want, and optionally attach a file
    (`.docx`, `.pdf`, `.txt`, `.md`, or an image — drag or paste it in). The AI drafts the idea for
    you.
  </Tab>
</Tabs>

## The idea form

</Frame>

Whether you are creating or editing, the form has the same fields.

| Field                | Notes                                                                                            |
| -------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Selected image** | Choose which attached image is the cover |
| **Type** | Outline, screenplay, character, location, prop, outfit, scene, shot, or other — or type your own |
| **Title**            |                                                                                                  |
| **Summary** | **Required.** This is what AI reads when the idea is used as a reference |
| **Detailed content** | Markdown                                                                                         |
| **Tags**             | Free text                                                                                        |
| **Image prompt** | With an **AI generate** button to draft one for you |
| **Video prompt**     | Same                                                                                             |

<Tip>
  Write the summary as if you were briefing someone who has never seen the project. "Tall, weathered
  fisherman in his sixties, always in a faded blue coat" gives the model far more to work with than
  "the fisherman".
</Tip>

## Editing later

Open an idea and use **Edit** at the bottom of the detail view. The same form opens with the current
values.

To delete, use **Delete** in the same place. Deletion asks for confirmation.

## Duplicating

Right-click an idea in the file tree and choose **Copy**. The duplicate is named with a "copy"
suffix and lands in the same folder.

System folders cannot be renamed, deleted, or copied — only the ideas inside them.
