# Members and permissions

> Add members, assign owner, editor, or viewer roles, and share an invite link.

Open **Settings → Members**. The tab has two panels: **Members**, and — if you are the owner —
**Viewer permissions**.

## Roles

| Role       | Can do                                                                                   |
| ---------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Owner** | Everything, including changing roles, transferring ownership, and deleting the workspace |
| **Editor** | Create and edit ideas, generate media, work on canvases |
| **Viewer** | Read-only, limited further by [viewer access](/workspaces/viewer-access) settings        |

Only the owner can change someone's role.

Permission to manage a workspace also extends to organization owners and organization admins when
the workspace belongs to their organization.

## Adding members

Click **Add member**. Inside an organization you can pick from the people already in it. Outside an
organization, share an invite link instead.

## Transferring ownership

The owner can hand the workspace to another member. After the transfer you keep your access but lose
owner-only controls.

## Removing members

Remove anyone except the owner. A workspace must always have at least one member, so the last
remaining person cannot be removed either.

## The invite link

Create a link and share it with someone outside the workspace.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Create the link">
    Click to generate it. The link is copied to your clipboard automatically.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Share it">
    Anyone with the link can join the workspace. The panel shows its expiry time.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Revoke when done">
    Revoking stops the link working immediately.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Warning>
  A workspace can have **only one active invite link at a time**. Creating a new one replaces the
  old one, and the old link stops working.
