Dragging is how most media moves around WJI. This page lists what you can drag, where you can drop it, and what happens.

Dropping onto the canvas

If an asset has a URL but no ID yet, WJI resolves it first. If that fails you are told to add the image to the asset library before dragging it.

Alt-dragging on the canvas

Holding Alt changes what a drag means, and it means four different things depending on what you grab. If you drop somewhere that means nothing, WJI tells you where valid targets are rather than failing silently.

Moving assets between datasets

These are moves, not copies. The asset is removed from its source dataset and added to the target, and both are saved. The sidebar reports the drag as a copy operation, but the behaviour is a move — use Copy to from the asset menu if you want it in both places.
Dropping an asset that is already in the target tells you so and changes nothing.

Dropping onto reference slots

Assets dragged from a dataset carry their dataset name and type with them, so the reference arrives already named and already typed as character, location, and so on.
On the canvas, first and last frames are not set by dragging. They are assigned through connections. See Connections and references.

Dropping files from your desktop

Beyond the canvas, these areas accept files directly:
  • The dataset contents pane — images, video, and audio
  • The asset library, which creates a new dataset from what you drop
  • Every reference slot listed above
The dataset contents pane also accepts pasted files.
The idea detail page has an upload button but is not a drop target.

Resizing panels

The sidebar and contents panes both have a drag handle on their right edge. Widths are remembered between sessions.
